Chapter 22
Chapter 22:
“Mom, I’m sorry, don’t leave me…”
Matthew was stunned; he looked at her hands clinging to his neck. His tender gaze fell on her face, which looked very pained and was close to hysteria.
Matthew frowned, “Dolores?”
Dolores couldn’t hear him. She seemed to be in a daze. She looked very worried, but quickly came to her senses, let go of Matthew and fell into a deep sleep. Matthew slowly straightened up, looked at her for a couple of seconds before turning around and leaving the room.
Helen was sitting on the couch and clinging tightly to a glass. Every second Matthew was in the room was torture for her. Didn’t this woman have to take care of her mother in the hospital? Why did she have time to go back?
Helen knew Abbott was going to investigate Dolores and that’s why she sent someone to Country A before Abbott’s man. She managed to kill the woman who offered Dolores the business. She was able to pretend that the woman committed suicide. This was also the reason why Abbott was unable to find out the truth of what happened that night.
She used all her efforts to prevent Matthew and Dolores from having time together. She paid everyone in Dolores’ mother’s apartment complex to gossip and slander Jessica, which resulted in her hospitalization. With Jessica’s hospitalization, Dolores would have less time with Matthew. But little did she expect that this woman would not stay in the hospital.
She was even taken by Matthew. Helen became distressed at the thought of this. As a result, she forgot to control her expression. When Matthew left the room, he could see Helen’s expression and approached her quietly.
Helen stood up and blurted out a question, “Is Miss Flores ill?”.
Matthew did not answer immediately, but sat down on the couch. He crossed his slender legs and slowly looked at Helen casually, not revealing his thoughts.
Helen was gripped with anxiety, as she dreaded that kind of Matthe.
She asked cautiously, “Matthew…”
“What?” he smiled, “What’s wrong?”noveldrama
It didn’t look like anything was wrong. Helen pulled herself together and sat down next to him. Since he was not bothered by her presence, her anxiety eased considerably.
“This is the Repulse Bay land contract.” Abbott handed the file to Matthew.
The reason Helen came with Abbott was that she learned that Matthew wanted the contract for this parcel.
The Repulse Bay parcel was prime quality, as it faced the ocean and had a hillside next to it. It was ideal for tourism and resort development, so it was in high demand.
But he became concerned when Matthew suddenly wanted to see the lease.
Randolph once went to the office because he wanted that land, but Matthew ignored him and would not grant him a meeting.
Dolores was Randolph’s daughter, so Helen was worried that Matthew would give it to the Flores Group because of their relationship. She didn’t care about the parcel but she did care about how Matthew treated Dolores.
“Didn’t they decide to have an auction for this land?” asked Helen.
Although her question was direct, how could Matthew not detect her motive with such a simple question?
But instead of exposing her, he put his arm around her shoulders, “Helen, you’ve changed.”
Helen was stunned, what did he mean?
“I… What has changed?” Helen was puzzled.
Matthew pinched her chin and looked at her, “You wouldn’t ask this in the past.”
Helen paused as she looked into his eyes. She had never seen the coldness in his eyes and she felt herself growing more and more anxious, “I…”
Suddenly, she lost control of her usual obedient and sensible self, “I’m afraid because I’m terrified!”
She wriggled out of Matthew’s embrace, covered her face with both hands and said painfully, “I’m afraid you’ll give this plot to Miss Flores. I am afraid that you will love her because she is your wife. I’m afraid you won’t love me anymore…”.
Helen began to cry bitterly. Matthew had never seen her behave like this. She closed her eyes and frowned with a very deep expression that no one could understand. After a while, Helen’s crying turned to sobs. She knew she had to tolerate, but there were also times when she had to use her tears and pity to secure a man’s heart.
Matthew opened his eyes and pulled himself together. He reached out his hands to embrace her again. “Do you feel so insecure?”
Helen leaned into him and sobbed, “It’s just that I’m afraid of losing you.”
Matthew sighed, “It won’t happen.”
She may have some motives and stratagems and she may not be as pure as she seems. But she was with him for many years and he wasn’t ready to look deep into her.
In the room.
Dolores was awakened by the ringing of her phone.
It was a message from Sampson. The message contained a picture of her mother’s apartment complex neighbor. From the photo, he appeared to be talking to a woman.
This back view…
Dolores found the woman’s back quite familiar, but she couldn’t immediately recognize it. Then, suddenly, something welled up in her stomach: “Urgh…”
She ran out of the bedroom and into the bathroom. He leaned over the sink and dried himself.
In the living room, Abbott was stunned by Dolores’ sudden appearance. He went to the bathroom but did not close the door and vomited in agony.
“Miss Flores is pregnant.” Helen looked at Dolores’ incessant vomiting. She thought Matthew was unaware of it and said so intentionally.
“It must be from that man she was cuddling with that day.” Helen purposely named a ‘father’ for the child inside Dolores. That way, Matthew would hate her.
Abbott was stunned-Matthew married a woman who was pregnant by someone else? Didn’t that mean he had been cuckolded by marrying her? He slowly raised his head to look at Matthew and thought Matthew would be furious, but he was surprisingly and strangely calm.
Even Helen was incredulous – he wasn’t angry and didn’t hate her?
“Matthew…”
Matthew leaned back on the couch and clearly didn’t want her to speak and Helen could only shut her mouth. As much as Dolores wanted to vomit, each time there was nothing to vomit and she could only dry heave.
After that wave of nausea, Dolores rinsed out her mouth and left the bathroom. Only then did she realize that there were people sitting in the living room and that Helen was hugging Matthew. She didn’t want to interfere and turned around to go back into the room.
But in his mind the image of Helen appeared. He turned to look at Helen and then looked at the picture on his phone. Auburn curls, similar height. His eyes suddenly sparkled. The person paying off his neighbors was Helen?
She thought about how she had been framed and wronged, suddenly Dolores understood what had happened. She must hate Dolores for marrying Matthew and taking away what was hers, that must be the reason she paid her neighbors to intentionally harm her and ended up causing her mother to become mentally ill!
The more Dolores thought, the more the pain stirred inside her ….
